On 1st May 2023, the Indian stock market will remain closed due to Maharashtra Day celebrations. Both the BSE (Bombay Stock Exchange) and NSE (National Stock Exchange) will be closed for the entire day, which means that there will be no trading activity in the equity segment, equity derivative segment, and SLB segment. The currency derivatives segment will also remain closed.

In the commodity derivatives segment and electronic gold receipts (EGR) segment, trading will be suspended during the morning session from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Trading will resume during the evening session at 5:00 PM. This means that there will be no action on MCX (Multi Commodity Exchange) and NCDEX (National Commodity Exchange) during the morning session.

The next stock market holiday after today will fall on 28th June 2023 for Bakri Id celebrations. After that, there will be no stock market holiday in the month of July this year, with the next holiday falling on 15th August 2023 for Independence Day celebrations.

On normal days, the Indian stock market opens at 9:15 AM, and trading continues till 3:30 PM. The pre-open session starts at 9:00 AM and ends after 15 minutes at 9:15 AM. In the commodity segment, trading at MCX and NCDEX begins at 9:00 AM, and trading takes place in two sessions - the morning session, which ends at 5:00 PM, and the evening session, which ends at either 11:00 PM or 11:30 PM, depending upon the guidelines issued by the market bodies.

Last week, the Indian stock market showed gradual upside momentum in the early part of the week and sharp upside momentum in the last two sessions. The NSE Nifty closed 149 points higher at 18,065, while the BSE Sensex surged 463 points and closed at 61,112 levels. The Bank Nifty index gained 233 points and closed at 43,233 mark. In the broad market, the small-cap index shot up 0.91 per cent, while the mid-cap index skyrocketed 1.32 per cent on Friday last week.
