Heat’s Thomas Bryant Receives Ring from Nuggets in Unique Ceremony
Traded Mid-Season, Suspended During Ring Ceremony: Bryant's Unusual Championship Journey
Thomas Bryant: Denver, CO – February 29, 2024 – Miami Heat center Thomas Bryant received his first NBA championship ring in a unique ceremony on Thursday night. While most players celebrate with their teammates, Bryant’s situation was far from ordinary.
Traded Mid-Season, Bryant Contributed to Nuggets’ Championship Run
Bryant began the 2022-23 season with the Los Angeles Lakers but was traded to the Denver Nuggets in February. Although his playing time was limited, he was a valuable member of the team’s championship run.

Offseason Move Leads to Awkward Reunion
During the offseason, Bryant signed with the Heat, setting up a clash with his former championship teammates. His return to Denver coincided with the Heat’s only visit of the season, making it the perfect opportunity for the ring ceremony.
Suspended Player Makes History
However, Bryant was serving a three-game suspension for an altercation, typically barring him from entering the arena. The NBA granted a special exception to allow Bryant to receive his ring before the game but required him to leave immediately. This unique situation makes Bryant the only player ever to be “kicked out” of their own championship ring ceremony.
Beyond Quirky – Thomas Bryant (who is a flat out great dude) gets his ring, but has to leave the ARENA as he was suspended for fighting. So. Very cool. But weird. Teammates love him@AltitudeSR pic.twitter.com/SeVhp4NpOb

Warm Welcome Despite Unusual Circumstances
Despite the awkwardness, Bryant received a warm welcome from both the Denver fans and his former teammates. Coach Michael Malone emphasized the importance of celebrating all contributors, including those who move on to other teams.
Celebrating a Championship, Making History
While the ceremony might not have been traditional, Bryant ultimately received his well-deserved championship ring. He can now add a unique chapter to his NBA career, forever remembered as the player suspended during his own championship ring ceremony.
